AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY I - 3 Units


Gr. 11, 2 Semesters, Daily, 3 Hours, 2 PM Sections. This course is the first year of a two-year course intended to prepare students for entry-level jobs as technicians in maintenance and repair of passenger cars and light trucks. Students will have both classroom instruction and laboratory experiences with approximately 75% of the time devoted to classroom instruction. Proficiency in use of automotive service tools and instruction in the more advanced scientific and mechanical principles on the automobile will be an important part of the training experience. Agreements with the Metropolitan Community Colleges enable qualified students to earn up to 10 hours of college credit during the two-year Automotive Technology Program.

Class size: 20 maximum per section.

Prerequisites: Minimum 2.0 GPA; 90% attendance record; reading, writing, and math at the 10th grade level.

RECOMMENDED: ELECTRICITY, POWER MECHANICS (WHEN AVAILABLE).

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY II - 3 Units

Gr. 12, 2 Semesters, Daily, 3 Hours, 2 AM Sections. This is the second year of a two-year course intended to prepare students for entry-level employment as technicians in repair and maintenance of passenger cars and light trucks. Approximately 75% of the student's time will be spent repairing customer-owned vehicles with special emphasis in the use of test equipment for the purpose of diagnosing engine malfunction. Classroom instruction will involve the introduction of more technical information pertaining to the power plant, power train, automotive electronics, transmissions, and automotive air conditioning. Agreements with the Metropolitan Community Colleges enable qualified students to earn up to 10 hours of college credit during the two-year Automotive Technology Program.

Class size: 20 maximum per section.

PREREQUISITE: SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY I.
